Winter Chronicles ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Candlelight
The Congregational Church, Bowden Lane, Market Harborough, LE16 7JD
Join the Harborough Collective for a spellbinding evening of music and storytelling inspired by Dickens’ much-loved tale. This year’s performance seamlessly blends words and music in an imaginative retelling of ‘A Christmas Carol’ - a journey from darkness to light, brought to life through David Le Page’s distinctive festive arrangements. The programme weaves together Vivaldi’s ‘Winter’, Corelli’s ‘Christmas Concerto’, the stunningly beautiful ‘Rowan Tree’, ‘Carol of the Bells’, ‘The Snow it Melts the Soonest’ and much more, creating a sound world where baroque, folk and cinematic influences meet to create a feast for the senses. As always, the magic is in watching the musicians interact - sharing their music with warmth, skill and genuine connection. An evening of sheer joy, reflection, atmosphere and Christmas spirit!
The Harborough Collective are delighted to be joined once again by trailblazing harpist Eleanor Turner whose international career has featured concerto performances in London, Berlin, Shanghai, New Orleans, Sydney and Hong Kong and more.

“Attention, Les Apaches!”
The Congregational Church, Bowden Lane, Market Harborough, Le17 7JD
The revolutionary artists movement ‘Les Apaches’ (The Hooligans) was formed by Maurice Ravel and pianist Ricardo Viñes in 1903 - the same year the 28 year old composer completed his epic string quartet. Amused when an intended insult “Watch out, Hooligans!” was shouted at the rowdy group of friends in the street as they left the premiere of Debussy’s new opera, they decided to appropriate the epithet for themselves. This groundbreaking collective of artists, musicians and writers met weekly in a studio in Montmartre, Paris, to share ideas and perform new works. Centred around Ravel’s mesmerising String Quartet this concert explores the richly evocative underworld of ‘Les Apaches’, inhabited by Ravel’s closest artist friends Manuel De Falla, Stravinsky, Satie and Debussy, as well as his teacher Gabriel Fauré, to whom Ravel dedicated his quartet.
Programme to include…
Ravel - String Quartet in F major
Satie - Gnossienne
Stravinsky - Suite Italienne
De Falla - Ritual Fire Dance
Fauré - Sicilienne
